  • Each year, the number of fellows varies. There are typically 25 to 30 fellows each summer.
  • A weekly stipend is provided. The summer stipend in 2023 is $680 per week.
  • Travel: Up to $700 for round-trip airfare to Woods Hole, USA
  • Housing: Two single beds per room in a communal apartment.
  • Foreign applicants will help fellowships secure the required J-1 Visa documentation.
  • Under the MIT-WHOI Joint Program, the Fellows will also have the chance to network with current graduate students.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • If a student’s graduation will occur before the fellowship begins, they cannot apply.
  • The fellowship will start in May 2023.
  • Students must be enrolled in a three-year bachelor’s degree programme, such as those offered in the UK, and be in their second year.
  • The third year of a five-year combined Bachelor and Master’s degree programme is required for applicants.
